CPaaS (Communications Platform-as-a-Service)

Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) is a cloud-based platform that enables developers to add real-time communications features (voice, video, and messaging) into their own applications without needing to build backend infrastructure and interfaces. CPaaS providers include Melrose Labs, Twilio, Vonage, Kaleyra and Plivo. CPaaS providers typically provide APIs with which developers can build applications utilising communications services or add communication services to an existing application or system. In addition to APIs, many CPaaS providers also provide SaaS portals that provide communications services or include such services as part of their function (e.g. marketing platform or multi-channel messaging portal).

CPaaS providers are able to use cloud technology to enable companies of any size to easily and more reliably develop and embed communication features. Development teams using CPaaS can save on human resources, infrastructure, and time to market.
