MSISDN (Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number)

An MSISDN is a number that uniquely identifies a subscription in a GSM or a UMTS mobile network. An MSISDN is the phone number associated with a single SIM card and is the number to which you call or send an SMS message. The MSISDN is used to identify a mobile user when they make a call or send an SMS.

The ITU-T recommendation E.164 limits the maximum length of an MSISDN to 15 digits. 1-3 digits are reserved for country code. Prefixes are not included (e.g. international dialing codes such as 00 or + prefixes). Minimum length of the MSISDN is not specified by ITU-T but is instead specified in the national numbering plans by the telecommunications regulator in each country.

An MSISDN is one of three types of Global Title (GT) in use in mobile networks. The other two being E.212 (IMSI) and E.214 (MGT).

Virtual Numbers are also MSISDNs.
